Revenue Maximization - is it part of RA?

Everyone knows and accepts that  revenue assurance team is supposed to make sure that all of the CDR’s are being processed by the mediation system. And the scope of RA often extends to billing and other operational leakage areas. But the new breed of revenue assurance department is doing much , much more than that. There are hundreds of revenue assurance groups today, whose main focus is on revenue maximization.
 
The old days of the revenue assurance team and the “data janitors” is being replaced by a group of dynamic tech savvy, business savvy and politically savvy professionals who are making sure that revenue assurance focuses WHERE THE ACTION IS.
 
If there is money to be made.. then there is money to be lost. So, wherever the revenue looks the most promising THAT is where the RA team wants to be.
 
But is this right? Is this what the revenue assurance department should be doing? Why should revenue assurance be involved in margin analysis, rate plan assurance, network asset utilization maximization, CHURN and the dozens of other areas where they are venturing.
 
It is sure that the role of the revenue assurance group is a dynamic one, and it is true that every organization seems to have a different slant on how to best leverage the skills, tools and knowledge that the teams have.
